1. What this policy covers
This policy explains how Typekute handles information when you use our website, lessons, Practices, games, typing tests, and public leaderboard. It works alongside our Terms of Use. Typekute does not require an account to use the current Service.
The information we handle falls into four groups: information stored locally in your browser; public leaderboard information; routine technical request information; and information you choose to send by email. This policy describes each group, why we use it, who receives it, and your choices.
2. Information stored in your browser
Typekute uses browser storage, including localStorage and IndexedDB, to remember your preferences and learning activity. This can include language and keyboard choices, sound and display settings, lesson progress, typing results, practice history, achievements, streaks, saved custom typing material, and a local copy of settings for Quick Test.
We also use Cache Storage to retain downloaded site data and font files for faster repeat visits, and sessionStorage for a short-lived reload guard. These local technologies help the Service work reliably. They are not automatically synchronised to an account or another device.
Typing input is processed in the page to run exercises and calculate feedback. Except for the performance summary described in the leaderboard section, Typekute does not send the full exercise text, custom text, or a keystroke-by-keystroke recording to the leaderboard.
3. Cookies and similar browser storage
Typekute uses localStorage, IndexedDB, Cache Storage, and sessionStorage for core functionality. These are browser-storage technologies used to remember settings, local progress, and downloaded data; they are not advertising cookies. The current Typekute application does not include third-party advertising or analytics scripts.
You can remove local Typekute data through your browser’s controls for site data. Doing so can reset preferences, remove saved progress and custom material, clear stored site data, and remove the local token used to manage a leaderboard identity. A provider may use its own technical cookies or similar technology when serving security services, such as a Cloudflare Turnstile challenge, if that challenge is enabled.
4. Local exports, imports, and saved custom material
Where available, progress backup creates a JSON file on your device. It can include locally stored attempts, preferences, achievements, and course context. Restoring a progress backup reads the file you choose in your browser and replaces the corresponding local progress data. Typekute does not upload a progress backup as part of the export or restore flow.
Practice statistics can also be exported from your browser in formats such as PDF, XLSX, DOCX, CSV, or Markdown. These files can contain learning and performance information, including results, dates, and key statistics. Keep exported files somewhere you control and share them only when you choose to do so.
Custom typing material you save remains in browser storage under the current Service. Do not put passwords, financial information, health information, or other sensitive information in custom material or exported backups.
5. Public Quick Test leaderboard
When the public leaderboard is available, completing an eligible official Quick Test can automatically send your result to the leaderboard service. You do not need to enter a name first. The site normally sends only results that could enter a Top 100 board; if rankings cannot be loaded, it may send an eligible result so the service can check it. Repeat and interrupted runs are not eligible.
A submission includes a test identifier, language and test configuration, typing speed, accuracy, duration, scoring counts, and an attempt identifier. The service creates an anonymous player identity and returns a private browser token. That token is stored locally and is used to recognise later submissions, retrieve ranks, and update a display name.
Public entries show a player identifier, display name, rank, speed, accuracy, score, duration, and result timestamp. The default name is Anonymous. Choosing a display name makes it public alongside qualifying results. Use a nickname and do not include names, contact details, school information, or other details you would not want others to see.
The service keeps the current Top 100 entries for each board and ranking type. It also keeps player records, accepted submission records to prevent duplicate results, and rank history. Falling out of the Top 100 does not delete those other records. Changing a display name does not delete earlier submission records.
6. Routine technical information and security
Loading the website or calling the leaderboard sends ordinary request information to the infrastructure serving that request. This can include an IP address, browser and device information, requested address, and request time. We use this information to deliver the Service, diagnose technical problems, and protect it from misuse.
The leaderboard uses a hash derived from the IP address, browser user agent, and request route to limit excessive requests. If a Cloudflare Turnstile challenge is enabled, its verification also involves Cloudflare and may include your IP address. We do not use the current leaderboard to make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about you.
7. Service providers, recipients, and transfers
The public leaderboard runs on Cloudflare Workers and stores its records in Cloudflare D1. Cloudflare processes information needed to host, deliver, and secure those services. You can read the Cloudflare Privacy Policy for details about its handling of information.
We share information only as needed to operate the Service, respond to your request, protect people and systems, or comply with applicable law. Because infrastructure providers may process requests where they operate, technical and leaderboard information may be processed outside your country. We do not sell or rent personal information, and the current Typekute application does not include third-party advertising or analytics scripts.
8. When you contact us
If you email Typekute, we receive your email address and whatever information you include. We use that information to respond to a question, investigate a reported issue, consider feedback, or handle a privacy request. Email is also processed by the providers involved in delivering and storing the message.
Please send only the information needed for your request. Do not email passwords, your private leaderboard token, or sensitive personal information. If you report a public leaderboard entry, include its public player identifier, display name, and relevant test details where available.
9. Why we handle information
We handle browser-stored information to provide the learning and settings features you choose. We handle server-held leaderboard information to operate the public ranking, prevent duplicate or abusive submissions, maintain fair rankings, and respond to requests. We handle email information to communicate with you. We may also keep or disclose information where necessary to meet a legal obligation, enforce our Terms, investigate misuse, or protect the rights, safety, and security of people and the Service.
Where a data-protection law requires a legal basis, the relevant basis may include providing the feature you request, our legitimate interests in maintaining a secure and fair service, your consent where required, and compliance with legal obligations. This does not limit any rights you have under applicable law.
10. Your choices and privacy rights
You can remove locally stored information through your browser’s controls for Typekute site data. Where progress export is available, you can save a backup before clearing it. Clearing local data may reset progress and settings and remove the token used to manage a leaderboard identity.
Clearing browser data does not remove previously submitted leaderboard records. To ask about access, correction, or removal of server-held information, email [email protected]. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, receive a portable copy of relevant information, or complain to your local data-protection authority.
We may need information to verify that a request concerns your public entry, especially if the browser token has been lost. Do not include the token in email. The current interface has no separate switch to disable eligible leaderboard submissions. For practice that does not submit leaderboard results, use lessons or Practices instead of an eligible official Quick Test.
11. Retention and security
Local data remains in your browser until it is removed by you, the browser, or a relevant reset or replacement action. The leaderboard currently has no fixed automatic expiry period for player, accepted submission, or rank-history records. We retain email correspondence for as long as reasonably needed to respond, keep appropriate records, protect the Service, or meet legal obligations.
The leaderboard stores a hash of the private player token rather than the token itself. This helps protect ownership credentials, but no browser storage, online service, or email system can be guaranteed completely secure. Anyone with access to your browser profile may be able to see local history or use its saved leaderboard identity.
12. Younger learners
Parents, guardians, and teachers should help younger learners understand that leaderboard names and results are public. Do not use a child’s real name, school, contact details, or other identifying information as a display name. Local lessons and Practices do not require a public name.
A parent or guardian who believes a child’s personal information appears in a public leaderboard entry can contact us to request review and removal. Include the public information needed to identify the entry, but do not send a private token.
13. External websites
Links to research, X, Instagram, Threads, and other websites take you to services with their own privacy policies. Information you provide to those services is handled under their policies. This policy does not cover those external services.
14. Updates and contact
We may update this policy when the Service or its data handling changes. The date at the top identifies the latest version. If a change is material, we will provide any notice required by applicable law. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to [email protected].
